Tackling Racial Hatred from Our Leaders
When our government ministers incite racial hatred and make us turn on one another, it's imperative that we take action.
On Saturday, 11th November, a peaceful protest was organised in London to call for a ceasefire in Gaza. The Home Secretary at the time, Suella Braverman, branded these protests, ‘hate marches’ and attempted to whip racial hatred against the Palestinian race and all those who supported them. Her words paid dividends and on the same day, a counter-protest was organised by a band of far-right nationalists. They attacked police, intimidated protestors and chanted Islamophobic chants. Over 100 of them were arrested.
Two days later, Suella was sacked. Clearly, the PM, Rishi Sunak realised that she had indeed, incited such hate.
Nonetheless, nothing has been done since. Suella has not met with the law for what is clearly criminal behaviour. She put people’s lives at risks and indirectly caused the injury of 9 officers, including two who needed hospital treatment with a fractured elbow and dislocated hip.
The Met Police made this statement on the day:
“The extreme violence from the right wing protestors towards the police today was extraordinary and deeply concerning.
They arrived early, stating they were there to protect monuments, but some were already intoxicated, aggressive and clearly looking for confrontation.”
Incitement is by definition, an indirect crime. It is the words of hateful cowards to get others to do their dirty work.
Suella Braverman should be investigated, arrested and charged for her actions. So please, take five minutes of your time to report her to the Met police, using the letter template below.
We all need to do our bit to ensure peace, equality and the right for peaceful protest for all of us.
I am writing to officially report incidents involving Suella Braverman, the Home Secretary, for her statements that have incited racial hatred, discrimination and Islamophobia during the pro-Palestine marches in London on 11th November 2023. The details of the incidents are as follows:
Nature of the Incident: Suella Braverman made statements falsely characterizing the pro-Palestine marches, including claims that they were hate marches and suggestions that the participants supported the destruction of Israel. These marches were well-organised and peaceful: there purpose very clear, that being the end of genocide in Gaza and freedom of the Palestinian people from occupation. There was nothing in those marches, their organisation or their message, for the destruction of the Israeli state nor any anti-Semitic statements.
The crux of Suella Braverman’s statements were racial, namely that support of Palestinians as a race was deemed to be ‘hateful’ and as such all Palestinians are hateful. These statements (which are all on the public medium including Suella Braverman’s own X (formely ‘twitter’ account) include:
“To my mind there is only one way to describe those marches: they are hate marches”False Allegations: Braverman falsely alleged that the slogan “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” is widely understood as a demand for the destruction of Israel, contributing to the racial incitement against those supporting Palestinian freedom.
Dangerous and FalseAllegations: and Incitement to Islamophobia: Suella also stated that the Pro-Palestine marches called for the end of the military bombardment of Gaza were “not a cry for Gaza” but “an assertion of primacy by certain groups — particularly Islamists — of the kind we are more used to seeing in Northern Ireland.” This is clearly untrue and seeks to use Islamophobic rhetoric to incite Islamophobia. Braverman’s claims linking the marches to terrorism and dismissing the Palestinian race contributed to the far-right taking to the streets with racist sentiments against Palestinians and their supporters and as well as Islamophobic chants. These included:. Lewis Goodall on X: “Trouble on Lambeth Bridge. Far right assembled screaming at protestors: “allah, allah, who the fuck is allah?” https://t.co/ELMNabpkq1″ / X (twitter.com)
This led to the anti-Palestinian protests on 11th November approaching Muslim pro-Palestine protestors and saying Islamophobic statements such as: “Allah, Allah, who the fuck is Allah.” Lewis Goodall on X: “Trouble on Lambeth Bridge. Far right assembled screaming at protestors: “allah, allah, who the fuck is allah?” https://t.co/ELMNabpkq1″ / X (twitter.com). As the Met are well aware, many far-right protestors then attacked police and over one hundred were arrested.
Restrictions on Pro-Palestinian Supporters: Braverman specifically targeted and banned pro-Palestinian supporters, including those with familial ties to World War Two veterans, from attending the cenotaph on Armistice Day, allowing only English nationalists and those who did not outwardly support the Palestinian people/race, to attend.
Crown Prosecution Sentencing Guidelines: The incidents appear to fall under the Crown Prosecution sentencing guidelines, as they involve perceived hostility or prejudice based on race and religion.
Dangerous Allegations:
I am willing to cooperate fully with the investigation and can be reached at the contact information provided above. Please consider this report as an official statement regarding the incidents.
